La scelta dei materiali nel mondo delle icone è molto significativa.

La foglia d’oro per esempio rappresenta la luce divina, la tavola di legno rappresenta il legno della croce, il gesso rappresenta “…la pietra scarta dai costruttori”.

Come anche i colori, hanno anch’essi un significato simbolico: ad esempio il rosso indica la divinità, la potenza, il sangue, il martirio; il blu rappresenta il cielo, la natura divina, lo Spirito Santo; il bianco rappresenta la luce, la purezza e il nero rappresenta le tenebre.

 

Tutto quello che viene impiegato per l’esecuzione dell’icona (tavola di legno, gesso, lino, colla di coniglio, uovo, aceto, pigmenti, bolo, oro…) sono materiali che fanno parte del regno animale, vegetale e minerale.

E’ come se tutti questi tre regni avessero ciascuno un ruolo ben definito, pronti a lavorare assieme, attraverso il lavoro delle mani dell’uomo, e condotti a servire Dio.

The gold leaf, for example, represents the divine light, the wooden table represents the wood of the cross, the gesso represents "... the stone discarded by the builders".

Also the colors used have a symbolic meaning depending on the topic of the icon, red indicates multiple meaning such as divinity, power, blood and martyrdom. Blue represents the sky, the divine nature and Holy Spirit. White represents light and purity while black represents darkness.

All materials used for the execution of the icon (wooden board, gesso, linen, glue, egg, vinegar etc...) are all parts of the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdom.

It is as all these three kingdoms each had a well-defined role, ready to work together, through the human hands that are led to serve God.

Выбор материалов в мире икон очень важен.
Например, сусальное золото представляет божественный свет, деревянная доска- дерево креста, мел - «... камень, от которого отказались строители».
Цвет также имеет символическое значение: например, красный цвет означает божественность, силу, кровь, мученичество; синий представляет небо, божественную природу, Святого Духа, белый представляет свет, чистоту и черный представляет тьму.

Все, что используется для исполнения иконы - деревянная доска, штукатурка, лен, кроличий клей, яйцо, уксус, пигменты, болюс, золото, - это материалы, являющиеся частью животного, растительного и минерального царства.
Как будто все эти три царства имеют четко определенную роль, готовы работать вместе и при помощи человеческих рук служить Богу.
